How uPVC Multipoint Locks Fail — and What We Do About It
A multipoint lock is only as strong as its weakest component, and in our experience attending call-outs across Beckenham, the gearbox is the most common point of failure. The gearbox — sometimes called the lock case — sits in the edge of the door and contains the drive mechanism that moves the bolts when you lift the handle. After several years of daily use, the internal cams and levers wear, the spindle hole becomes oval-shaped, and eventually the mechanism either slips uselessly or locks solid. You may notice the handle flopping down without resistance, the bolts not extending fully, or the key turning but nothing engaging. These are all signs that uPVC door lock repair is needed before the door becomes a security risk or leaves you locked out entirely.
Back and patio doors present their own variation of this problem. A sliding door lock replacement is a job we carry out regularly in Beckenham, particularly on older aluminium-framed sliding patio doors where the lock housing has corroded or the rollers have dropped, misaligning the whole mechanism. French doors introduce the added complication of an espagnolette system running up and down both door leaves, meaning a fault on one side can immobilise both. In every case our approach is the same: assess the damage first, establish whether repair or replacement is the most practical route, and confirm an exact up-front quote before we touch anything.
